How to Evaluate Ingredient Research in Dietary Supplements

Ingredient research can be useful, but only if dose, preparation, population and outcome are comparable to the product you are evaluating.

Written by GetProstadinee Editorial Team

1. Match the ingredient form

An oil, extract, powder and whole food may not be equivalent.

2. Match the dose

A study using hundreds of milligrams should not be presented as proof for a product providing only a few milligrams.

3. Distinguish ingredient from finished product

A multi-ingredient formula needs its own evidence if you want to claim the finished product is clinically proven.

4. Check study quality

Randomization, control groups, sample size, preregistration and replication matter.
